Pictures fron the Indymedia Centre at the 2007 Camp for Climate Action. The centre ran for just under a week on a mix of solar and wind, taking power from 4 power providers at different times.
During the Climate Camp, the field IMC media centre was open for a minimum of five hours each day (two and a half each morning and evening), with these limited opening hours primarily aimed to conserve power. Some days it was open longer, and it ran fully all day for two days until about midnight during the main day of action.
In preparation for the 2005 G8 Summit in Edinburgh, a media convergence was hosted by Indymedia London at The Institute for Autonomy occupied social center. About 100 media makers attended the two-day event, which helped plan strategies and tactics for media production at the anti-G8 mobilizations set for the early summer.
Indymedia had a very dark tent at the 2001 Cannabis Festival in Brockwell Park. Very heavy rain, but a few laptops were up and running. Close to us was the Beyond TV double decker bus. I think we might even have shared some resources - electricity?
The publication of this essay by El Sub in 1997 was one of the seminal moments in the history of Indymedia. Or at least for me.
